WB GROUP will deliver additional FONET-NAVY maritime communication platforms. The system supports the fleet-modernisation programme of the end-user nation. FONET-NAVY is an onboard internal communication system for naval vessels, developed from the widely fielded land version. It enables communication between all crew members, broadcasting of alarm messages, and full integration of all onboard radios.
The digital FONET communication platform is a vehicle intercom system deployed in tens of thousands of units across the armed forces of several dozen countries. In addition to providing intercom functions and integrating onboard devices in military vehicles, it also enables remote control of radios. FONET is produced in Poland and under licence in several countries, including the United States.
Building on this proven solution, WB GROUP developed the FONET-NAVY maritime variant, maximally unified with the land version. The first naval communication platform was delivered two years ago and successfully tested by the end user. The current order covers additional batches of the FONET-NAVY system.
Developing a naval version based on the vehicle configuration aligns with the concept of achieving the highest possible unification of land and maritime communication solutions. This ensures safety, cost control, and continuous, systematic maintenance and modernisation of the systems in service.
Thanks to the flexibility and simplicity of the FONET-NAVY system – while still offering advanced communication functions – and its capacity for easy, rapid expansion and upgrades, the naval communication platform will remain operationally relevant for decades.
An advantage of FONET-NAVY is its ability to accommodate cabling without connectors and to make use of existing installations. Devices may be mounted within operator-panel structures or at external combat stations. FONET-NAVY is engineered for full environmental resistance suitable for maritime conditions, and its power supply has been adapted to naval-platform requirements.
The FONET-NAVY communication platform consists of three primary components: the central unit, the public-address amplifier, and the operator consoles. The central unit enables connection of up to 30 operator stations, radio-communication devices, and data-exchange systems. For vessels with larger crews, multiple central units can be cascaded, allowing the system to support a greater number of users.
The public-address amplifier is a dual-channel device used to amplify signals for internal and external shipboard broadcast networks, or for both simultaneously. It supports the broadcasting of messages and signals—including alarms—through speakers located in cabins, operational rooms, corridors, and on deck.
The operator console is a panel with an integrated speaker and microphone. It enables wired communication at operator stations. Helmets with headsets or handsets can be connected for more demanding combat or technical positions. The built-in display and keypad provide access to a range of system functions.
